I DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE A COMMON MAN - A NEW VISION

It is my right to be uncommon, if i can. I seek opportunity, not security. i do not wish to be kept a citizen, humbled and by having the state look after me. I want to take the calculated risks to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentives for a dole and I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existance! The thrill of fullfillment to the stale calm of utopia. I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout. I will never cover before any master nor bend to any threat. It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid, to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefits of my creations and to face the world bold and say.. THIS, I HAVE DONE

UNCLE ALEX 60TH BDAY & MAHJONG DAY

April 19th 2009 - Uncle Alex turned 60! But many commented he doesn't look his age. For his 60th birthday, Aunty Dilys & Desmond invited friends to celebrate in Tai Tung, Croydon. Yes it is Tai Tung, I know in KL it's Tai Thong. The food was nice and there was A LOT of food - let me try to remember, Lobster Noodles (my favourite), Yam Duck (Uncle Alex favourite), prawn, fish, suckling pig (Aunty Jessie's favourite). Ahemmm... to my professional photographer friends out there who own big big and sophisticated cameras, your friend here was appointed as photographer for the night, with her humble Nikon P50. Pictures turn alright. hiaks... :)

Hopefully when I turn 60, I can celebrate it like this too - with good friends surrounding me. Uncle Alex had friends coming from all over - Uncle Boey & Aunty Kim came from Sydney and Aunty Tiggy and Uncle Martin came from KL.

I must say one of the busiest person for Uncle Alex big day is Aunty Ann. She was to make the birthday cake. It's not any ordinary birthday cake you see... I shall let you see the picture of the cake below. I have never seen any cakes like this before... and it's not only the good appearance, u know... the cake is delicious - orange cake.

It's a Mahjong Cake! Happy Birthday Uncle Alex!!

Then on 4th May, the May Day holiday, Aunty Ann official declared open her conservatory with 12 hours of MAHJONG and JIMRAMI! I must say it was a very fun day. It was also especially meaningful becoz' for the first time, all the other aunties met Aunty Lianny and Uncle Bryan for the first time. I believe they have heard about each other for quite sometime, but have never met each other due to their streanous schedules. Despite having not played for a very long time - I must say Aunty Lianny did quite well! Both Aunty Lianny and Uncle Alex helped me collect back my depleted chips! hehe... :) I must say it was a relaxing day for all - maybe except Aunty Ann - she was the chief cook and player at the same time.

There is this legend, that the Tan family (Uncle Alex, Aunty Dilys and Desmond) never lost in any game of mahjong... so last week, when we received an email from Aunty Dilys saying she'll be so tired on D Day that she'll probably sleep on the mahjong table, we were a bit skeptical. For the past 2 weeks, both Aunty Dilys and Uncle Alex accompanied Uncle Boey and Aunty Kim around Europe before both Uncle Boey and Aunty Kim returned to Sydney. So we thought, maybe this will be our lucky break... the legend will be proved wrong after all. Were we right? WRONG! Limit after limit and jim after jim.

I tutup 'pai' liaw - all still concentrating

Uncle Alex & Aunty Jessie... taking a break

makan time!! It was Laksa for lunch & Claypot Chicken rice, manggo acar, and many more for dinner...

Aunty Ann going around with dessert - but everybody was too engrossed...
